10 Strange Marriage Laws

1) Marriage by proxy, which means someone stands in for a bride/groom who can't be present at his/her wedding, is limited to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. But of the four states that allow the practice — California, Colorado, Texas and Montana — Montana is the only one that allows double-proxy weddings. Essentially, neither the bride nor groom has to show up. Call us old-fashioned, but it doesn’t seem like the ideal start to the biggest commitment of one's life. 

2) For a few months between 2007 and 2008, anyone under 18 could get married in Arkansas with parental consent. (Yes, even babies — as their parents agreed!) The original law was meant to allow pregnant teenagers to get married if their parents approved, but lawmakers forgot to put in an age minimum. The law was corrected in April 2008, making the minimum age 17 for boys and 16 for girls.

3) Ever been dared to get married ... as a prank? Neither have we. But apparently this happens often enough in Delaware that it's actually an option when couples file for an annulment. Along with the basic reasons such as marrying "without the capacity to consent" or "under duress," couples can now check "because of a jest or dare" when applying to dissolve their nuptials. 

4) In Kentucky, it's illegal to remarry the same man four times. Honestly, good for Kentucky: If you've already divorced him three times, someone should step in. Of course, as long as it's different men, you can get married and divorced as many times as you like. 

5) In Truro, Mississippi, a groom-to-be must "prove himself manly" prior to marriage by hunting and killing either six blackbirds or three crows. Manly is a good thing. Dead birds? Not so much. 

6) Despite the fact that the infamous witch trials were over 300 years ago, religious conservatism is still alive in Salem, Massachusetts — at least on the law books. Apparently, married couples are not allowed to sleep in the nude in a rented room. Of course, reflecting on numerous media reports about germs on hotel bedspreads, who would want to?!

7) In South Carolina it's illegal for a man over 16 years old to propose marriage and not mean it. Doing so means he's committing a misdemeanor under the Offenses Against Morality and Decency Act. Not sure if that means he will be forced to marry the woman in question, or if he can't ask for a woman’s hand as a way to seduce her. We hope it's the latter. 

8) Many husbands would probably say their mother-in-law isn't their favorite person in the world. But for those who really, really dislike their wife's mother, moving to Wichita, KS, might be a good option. In this city, a man's mistreatment of his mother-in-law may not be used as grounds for divorce. 

9) Imagine it: You get a babysitter so you and your hubby can go out for a romantic dinner. Afterward you take a stroll around town. Caught in the moment, you lean in for a passionate kiss. Busted! The police can cuff you and throw you in jail — that is, if you live in Hartford, Connecticut ... and it's Sunday. Well, maybe not these days, but technically, it’s still illegal in this city for a man to kiss his wife on the Lord's Day. 

10) It’s most likely that your wedding was officiated by a religious figure or judge. Or, if you're a bit more eccentric than some, you had a friend become ordained so he or she could marry you. New Orleans has made it illegal for palm readers, fortune tellers, mystics and the like to officiate a wedding. Guess they don't want you peeking at your future — you'll just have to go into it with blind faith like everyone else!

Assault With A Sex Toy

While I would never condone any act of violence against an office of the law, this tickled my funny bone is some many ways.

The Illinois woman, 56, is facing an aggravated assault rap after allegedly attempting to strike a cop with a sex toy.

As part of an investigation into a claim that Bildsten had skipped out on a restaurant bill last night, an officer from the Gurnee Police Department accompanied the suspect to her apartment, where she promised to retrieve money to pay the tab, according to a police press release.

However, when Bildsten reached inside a dresser drawer to get the purported cash, she instead removed a “clear, rigid feminine pleasure device,” held it above her head, and advanced on the cop “in a threatening manner.” The officer responded by knocking the sex toy out of the way before he was struck with the device.
The sex toy, which was not confiscated by cops, was further described by Deputy Chief Kevin Woodside in a TSG interview. The item, he noted, was six inches long and “attached to a nylon harness.”
In addition to the assault count, Bildsten was charged with public intoxication and theft of services for allegedly dining and dashing at Joe’s Crab Shack.

Bildsten, free on a personal recognizance bond, is scheduled for a December 6 court appearance.

Date Night

Working, school, taking care of kids, and life in general, getting some quality time with my husband is not always the easiest to do. After a month or so we both take a breath and realize, hey we miss each other. This is when date night is planned. We are sure to make date night a regular occurrence in our lives.

Our date night is often once a month although it has been sooner and one the rare occasion longer. We take the opportunity to get out of the house and away from everyday life. We usually opt for a quiet dinner out. This gives us time to talk without distraction. Our choices are restaurants with booths that make us feel secluded from the other patrons. When we took out date night to a busy open restaurant with individual chairs we overheard conversations at other tables, focused on the passing children, or were even quiet towards each other because we could not hear each other fully due to the celebrating large table close by.

Date night does not have to be at a restaurant. Take it to the movie theater and snuggle during the showing. Share a bag of m&ms, meet in the popcorn bucket, sip on the same straw. Take a drive away from the city lights and share a dessert on a picnic blanket then dance to your song on the radio. This is an intimate encounter for you both. Leave others out of it.

Date night doesn't have to be an evening affair. Plan an afternoon picnic, a hand-holding stroll through a museum, take a drive to an undetermined destination. The point is to have quality time together for several hours.

My first marriage failed because we never focused on each other outside the bed. We rarely took time for each other after we married. Before marriage we took weekend trips to Laughlin, NV (a 9 hour drive), we knew each others dreams and supported them, we went out for a drink. After we got married we fell into a routine of a married couple with a young child and long hours of work. We stopped taking weekend trips, we forgot about each others dreams. We stopped going out unless it was with friends. We had the young child before marriage so it wasn't the addition, our dreams didn't change, our jobs didn't change. We were able to make time before marriage. We just forgot to do it after marriage. We separated less than a year into marriage.

My second marriage is successful with lessons learned from my first. We take time out. If he needs time, he tells me. I do the same. We listen. We talk. We take time out. Date night is very important to every relationship. Take time to schedule your date night. Make it intimate and focused on each other.

Water Based	Water-based lube is a great all around lubricant for all types of intercourse and toys	Some find it doesn’t last as long. Washes off in water. Some people experience reactions to parabens or glycerin in some brands.
Silicone Based	Ideal for situations that involve water, such as hot tubs or showers. Won’t rinse off with water but can be cleaned up with soap and water.	Should not be used with most silicone toys, and only with latex condoms, as it will break down the integrity of the material.
Oil Based	Long-lasting, and slick, this lubricant is ideal for many.	Conflicting reports about yeast infections and break down of latex condoms. Recent advances in condoms are creating the safe use of oil based lube with polyurethane.
Water Based Gel	Thicker than its water-based sister, this lube is less likely to be absorbed quickly.	Some people think it has a tendency to get sticky.
Flavored Lube	Great for performing oral sex, these lubes add some flavor to your love-making.	Be careful of flavored lubes that contain sugar. Sugar will affect the PH levels of the vagina and can cause yeast infections. Read your labels.

History of the Vibrator

For centuries, doctors had been treating women for a wide variety of illnesses by performing what we would now recognize as masturbation. The "pelvic massage" was especially common in the treatment of female hysteria during the Victorian Era, as the point of such manipulation was to cause "hysterical paroxysm" (orgasm) in the patient.
